This session will explore the approach in the book, ‘The Music Lesson' by Victor Wooten which transforms fear into curiosity, mistakes into opportunities. |

STRESS / ANXIETY FOR PERFORMERS & TEACHERS
Conquering Stress and Anxiety for Performers, Teachers and Other Assorted Humans! |
Teachers and performers are confronted with stressful situations including auditions, performances and the day-to-day challenges of being an educator…and being a human! Historically, stress was a survival mechanism releasing adrenaline and cortisol. Muscles tighten, blood pressure increases and the breath quickens. This session will provide simple, practical ways to calm the mind and body, reduce anxiety and improve chances of success in pressurized environments. Participants will learn how to use breathing techniques to slow down their heart rates and will practice easy-to-learn, non-strenuous T’ai Chi Chih movements to calm the mind and improve on-the-spot decision making skills.
PLUGGING IN - EFFECTS PEDALS / ELECTRIC GEAR
Are you interested in exploring electric string instruments for yourself or your students? 'Plugging in' creates a whole new world of creativity. This session addresses the challenge of getting a good electric sound and exploring effects pedals. BRING YOUR INSTRUMENT!
HOW TO BUILD A MULTI-STYLES STRINGS PROGRAM
Ignite your school orchestra program! This workshop will address student engagement, enrollment, funding and administrative and community support. Learn the techniques that Robb utilized to transform a dying middle school music class into a national award-winning, successful program that has inspired thousands of students from a wide range of backgrounds and has served as a model for teachers and schools.
WORKSHOP QUALIFICATIONS
Robb has dedicated over 25 years to providing innovative music classes to diverse and underserved populations in public schools. His national award-winning mid-school Rock and Rhythm program has been featured on the PBS Newshour, KNME/PBS Colores, KUNM public radio, Albuquerque Journal, Albuquerque the Magazine and multiple local newscasts.
In addition to being named a PBS American Graduate Champion and ING Unsung Hero, Janov presented a TEDxABQ Talk, received a Creative Bravos Award and has received numerous local and national grants.
Starting with just 30 students in 1996, the program, a true model of inclusion, now serves six full sections of the class. (Rehearsing daily during school). ASTA presenter, 2015, 2019, 2020.
Collaborations with Julie Lyonn Lieberman, Martha Mooke, Joe Deninzon, Cory Zilisch. Clinician/presenter for school orchestra program, legislative sessions Robb Janov was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago for four seasons and also played with Indiana University's Orchestras. He performs Gypsy Jazz, Swing, Latin and Funk-Fusion.
Robb composed music for the Natalie Portman movie Jane Got a Gun and has acted in and composed music for other TV, film and public radio productions.
Robb continues to study comedy improvisation and has provided live, improvised musical scoring and sound effects for improv shows in Albuquerque, NM.
